Mastering The At-Home Non-Toxic Nail Care Routine

Going to the nail salon was always a treat but during the coronavirus outbreak, I had to shift gears AND finding non-toxic nail polish out there is next to nil! In fact, many recycling centers refuse to accept nail polish bottles because they are classified as hazardous waste – Yikes!

My weekly nail care routine has become a relaxing, meditative practice. I maintain and hydrate my natural nails weekly.

The first steps included building a nail care kit that is non-toxic and would stand the test of time. I opted for products made from metal, stone or glass because they can easily be sanitized and are NOT prone to buildup and bacteria.

These are the products in my at-home nail kit!

Kiya Black Steel Nail Clipper Superior Japanese Stainless Steel Construction with A Sharp Edge – the Best!

Ejiubas Cuticle Trimmer and Pusher Stainless Steel Nipper and Pusher for frequent use for both manicures and pedicures.

Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream Ingredients include Sweet Almond Oil, Beeswax, Lemon Peel Oil, Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E Oil, Sunflower Oil, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Soybean Oil and Canola Oil.

Ella + Mila Soy Polish Remover Ingredients include Vitamins A, C & E, as well as Lavender Essential Oil, all of which promote healthy and moisturized nails. This product does not contain acetone or harsh acetates.

Bontime Natural Nail Polish Water-Based Nail Polish without an inhalable smell. This polish last about a week except when you soak your hands in water.

Of course, it would not be a nail routine without my favorite oil in the world – Ahava Oil!

NOW FOR THE ROUTINE!

STEP 1: CLEAN AND SHAPE YOUR NAILS

  • Wash your hands
  • Remove old polish.
  • Prep your cuticles. See the tutorial above.
  • Oil your nails and cuticles.
  • Shape and file.

STEP 2: PAINT YOUR NAILS

  • Prime your nails with a dab of non-toxic remover so the vegan polish will stick.
  • Then add your base coat.
  • Polish and dry your nails.
  • Finish off by adding your clear top coat.

Enjoy until the next week!
