Puerto Rico is a quick three and a half hour non-stop flight from my home. A perfect island for a ten-day excursion of rest and play.
- No passport needed
- US currency is used everywhere
- Most people speak English; although, the national language is Spanish
- Your US phone will work without incurring roaming charges
The people are ethnically diverse, friendly and will openly invite you to hang out and enjoy the island. Everyone can feel at home in Puerto Rico. I can not say enough wonderful things about this place. The police presence was everywhere in San Juan and we felt safe everywhere we visited.
The Architecture
Every day was a balmy, breezy seventy to eighty degrees even when it rained. I couldn’t get enough of being outside and appreciating the colorful, stately architecture.

The Food
THE SNAPPER COUPLE: We ate almost everyday at a local place called Bebos recommended by the porter at our hotel. We became a fixture and the staff began to recognize us by the seventh day.
Our favorite meal? Steamed Snapper!! (fried on the menu but we asked for it to be steamed and the chef did a wonderful job.)
The staff was mature and experienced. The food was filled with uncompromising flavor! We welcomed each course with utter glee.
They took their jobs seriously and our stomachs honored their dedication to perfecting their craft.
Bacardi Sunrise
A lovely tour of the Bacardi factory ended with a perfect drink I still make at home today – the Bacardi Sunrise – a refreshing drink filled with rum and tropical greatness.
