Scott Belsky’s Making Ideas Happen demonstrates how any one can fully develop their ideas with the correct organizational habits and growth mindset.

He recommends that one should view the manifestation of every idea as a project that should be broken down in three categories.

  1. Outline the project into actual steps you need to take to achieve your goal.
  2. Gather valuable pieces of data and sources of information that will enhance your project.
  3. Determine backburner items that you can work toward later in the project.

Know yourself first then collaborate with partners who are strong where you are weak.

  1. Are you a dreamer? You’re an idea generator but executing your ideas is a struggle.
  2. Are you a doer? You are great at project planning and execution but new and exciting ideas don’t come easily to you.
  3. Are you an incrementalist? You are doer and a dreamer; although you tend to take on too many projects at one time.

Manage Your Time and Energy

  1. Sort projects by strategic and economic value – work on the project that brings the most value first. You can catch up with lesser projects when you’re not as busy. Alternatively, you can consider eliminating projects that no longer work.
