Fall Cleaning & De-clutter Checklist

The days are cooler, it’s darker earlier, and football season is underway – fall has finally arrived and now is time to prepare for the season.

  • Porch: Sweep and blow leaves away from the front of the house. Shake out the welcome mat. Wipe down the front windows and use your broom to get rid of cobwebs.
  • Patio: Scrub furniture with hot water and let it dry out. Cover and store to protect from winter elements.
  • Pantry: Clean pantry shelves, toss expired food, reorganize the shelves. Place items for little ones at eye length.
  • Lighting Fixtures: Remove dust, dirt, and cobwebs from ceiling fans, heating vents, railings and baseboards with a cleaning cloth or Swiffer (to trap and hold dust and dirt) and/or a vacuum cleaner (use the soft nozzle attachment).
  • Clothing: Clean and put away summer clothing and take out those sweaters, coats, scarves, hats and mittens. Wash and hang, as necessary.
  • Beddings and Throws: Flannel sheets and warm blankets needs to be taken out and laundered for the fall and pillows and mattress pads washed and freshened.
  • Paperwork: File or take photos of important papers and receipts (then save to Evernote). Throw away or shred all unnecessary papers.
